What you will do

• Lead end-to-end payment projects from discovery and integration design with PSPs to rollout and monitoring.
• Expand payment method capabilities with a focus on local digital rails such as UPI and PIX.
• Build a card issuing stack, including ledgers, authorization flows, and operational tooling.
• Scale payment processing to support 10x growth and optimize multi-currency FX engines.
• Own the reliability of the payments system, including on-call response and authoring post-mortems.

Requirements

• 7+ years of product engineering experience, with 4+ years dedicated to architecting complex payment systems.
• Proven track record with PSPs, acquirers, gateways, settlement processes, and PCI compliance.
• Backend mastery in Ruby on Rails, Kotlin, Python, Go, Java, or Node.js (ability to ramp up on Ruby quickly).
• Full-stack proficiency with React to build payment flow interfaces.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, double-entry ledgers, idempotency, and event-driven architectures.
• Must be based in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Portugal, or Spain.

Nice to have

• Experience launching new payment methods or PSP integrations end-to-end.
• Experience building or operating a card issuing program.
• Experience with marketplace or two-sided platform payments (split payments, escrow-like flows).
