Location: San Francisco, California. Must be based in San Francisco and committed to 5 days/week in the office.

What you will do

• Design and grow the engineering organization from approximately 10 to 50+ engineers globally.
• Partner with founders to define platform strategy and drive critical architectural decisions.
• Establish processes, tooling, and a culture that enables fast shipping without excessive technical debt.
• Own the evolution of the agentic AI platform, including LLM orchestration and retrieval systems.
• Lead the technical recruiting pipeline and enhance the employer brand to attract top SF talent.
• Drive engineering excellence across incident response, observability, and reliability targets.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 4-6 years in leadership roles at high-growth startups.
• Proven track record of scaling technical teams through Series A, B, and C funding transitions.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, API design, cloud architecture, and production AI systems.
• Fluency in AI engineering, specifically with LLMs and agentic AI at the infrastructure level.
• Production-scale experience with TypeScript and Python.
• BS/BA in Computer Science required; MS or PhD in CS or AI is a strong plus.
• Must be based in San Francisco and committed to 5 days/week in-office work.

Nice to have

• Domain experience in conversational AI, voice AI, or agentic systems at scale.
• Background in fintech, banking, or regulated financial services.
• Experience as a VP or Director of Engineering at a company that scaled to Series C+.
• Experience building globally distributed engineering teams (US and international).
