TL;DR

SME Cybersecurity Engineer (Cybersecurity): Leading cybersecurity, compliance, and risk management activities for the U.S. Coast Guard with an accent on federal security standards, ATO packages, and vulnerability management. Focus on implementing RMF processes, managing POA&Ms, and ensuring mission-critical systems maintain authorization through technical leadership.

Location: Hybrid (Alexandria, VA)

Salary: $165,000 – $214,000 Annually

What you will do

  • Lead the drafting and maintenance of Authority to Operate (ATO) packages in alignment with federal guidelines.
  • Oversee the selection and implementation of security controls and DISA STIG checklists.
  • Create and monitor Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) to remediate enterprise security gaps.
  • Monitor ACAS scans and collaborate with infrastructure teams for vulnerability remediation.
  • Conduct Privacy Threshold Analysis (PTA) and document Contingency Plan (CP) testing.
  • Coordinate strategic communications with Coast Guard Cyber Command (CGCYBER) and respond to CORA data calls.

Requirements

  • Must have an active Secret clearance.
  • 12+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • DoD 8570.01-M IAM Level I Certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CAP, GSLC).
  • Practical experience with ACAS, SIEM, and XDR platforms.
  • Direct experience utilizing eMASS and the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process.
  • Must be based in or able to work in Alexandria, VA (Hybrid setup).

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) programs.
  • Advanced certifications such as IAM Level II/III (CISSP, CISM, or CASP+).
  • Prior experience with formal federal security audits or Cyber Operational Readiness Assessments (CORA).
  • Familiarity with automation tools for tracking vulnerability remediation.
