TL;DR

Battery Cell Electrochemistry Analysis Engineer (Automotive): Developing and deploying multi-physics battery cell and pack models with an accent on electrochemical modeling, data science, and battery design optimization. Focus on optimizing cell performance for vehicle range, charging capability, and battery aging effects.

Location: Hybrid (Warren, Michigan). Selected candidates are expected to report to the office at least 3 times a week.

What you will do

  • Develop, maintain, and calibrate physiochemical, electrochemical, thermal, mechanical, and safety models for current and future battery chemistries.
  • Implement multi-scale and multi-dimensional cell models using COMSOL, MATLAB/Simulink, SABER, Python, and PyBaMM.
  • Integrate cell performance variation, aging mechanisms, and thermal behavior into simulation frameworks.
  • Document models, assumptions, and intended model usage.
  • Support electric vehicle execution by releasing models integrated into full vehicle co-sims for calibration, diagnostics, and controls development.

Requirements

  • BSE in Chemical, Electrical, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred).
  • 2+ years of industry experience executing battery modeling and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of modeling processes, specifically physics-based degradation mechanisms and transport phenomena.
  • Must be based in or able to relocate to Warren, Michigan to meet hybrid work requirements.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree (MS or greater) in Chemical, Electrochemical, Materials, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Solid understanding and working knowledge of fundamental physics, equations, and numerical methods underpinning simulation software.
