Backend Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid (London), with at least two days per week or 40% of working time at an office site.

Salary: £76,760–£95,950 per year.

What you will do

• Build elegant, performant, maintainable, operable, and secure Golang microservices for financial products and services.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions.
• Contribute to system design, architecture, engineering best practices, and continuous development improvements.
• Build connected platforms, data-driven financial insights, and integrations with applications and services.
• Develop scalable and resilient systems that help customers manage their money.
• Work with DevOps and SRE teams to support production environments.

Requirements

• Strong commercial experience developing backend applications in Golang.
• Experience building and supporting microservices architectures and concurrent, distributed applications at scale.
• Experience deploying and operating applications in containerized environments, ideally Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience working in agile development environments.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across application, network, server, and database layers.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a commitment to learning, continuous improvement, and high-quality software delivery.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging technologies and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with real-time, low-latency, transaction-based systems.
• Knowledge of AWS, Docker, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or BigQuery.
• Exposure to data platforms, ETL processes, or machine learning-enabled products.
• Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting other engineers.
• Previous experience in fintech, payments, or a fast-paced startup environment.
