What you will do

• Report and write news articles and breaking news alerts under tight deadlines.
• Conduct live, in-person coverage at courthouses, state legislatures, and strategic regional locations.
• Pitch and develop analytical feature stories on complex tax and legal subjects.
• Apply knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes to coverage.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with sources, editors, and the news desk.
• Collaborate with other correspondents and Washington-based reporters.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English or journalism.
• 8-12 years of experience in journalism.
• At least one year of experience reporting on the assigned subject areas.
• Strong knowledge of journalism principles, techniques, and legislative processes.
• Ability to meet sources in person and cover live events within California.
