What you will do
- Investigate and resolve complex manufacturing and field issues, taking technical ownership from root cause to solution.
- Lead design changes and product improvements from concept through to production handover.
- Act as the mechanical lead and systems integrator, collaborating with electronics, firmware, and software teams.
- Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and design for manufacturability (DFM) activities.
- Provide technical guidance to service and applications teams regarding complex field challenges.
- Identify and champion long-term improvement opportunities within the product portfolio.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Significant experience in product development within scientific instrumentation, laboratory automation, or medical devices.
- Strong foundation in mechanism design, thermal management, tolerancing, and DFM/DFS.
- Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and make informed decisions at a system level.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable parametric 3D CAD within a managed PDM environment.
- Experience leading technical work packages or project teams with a focus on delivery and risk management.
Nice to have
- Experience with mechanical refrigeration systems (-20°C to -80°C).
- Knowledge of thermal analysis or simulation (FEA-based thermal modelling).
- Familiarity with motion control, embedded sensors, or fluidics.
- Understanding of safety standards such as IEC 61010 and the Machinery Directive.
- Experience with automated liquid handling systems.
