What you will do

• Lead the development and deployment of navigation systems for hull-cleaning and NDT inspection robots.
• Fuse data from underwater sensor suites, including IMUs, DVLs, pressure sensors, and acoustic positioning systems (USBL/LBL).
• Implement advanced filtering algorithms such as error-state Extended Kalman Filters (EKF), Unscented Kalman Filters (UKF), and Particle Filters.
• Derive and maintain linear and nonlinear state-space models for estimating position, velocity, attitude, and sensor biases.
• Calibrate and validate real sensor stacks, managing IMU bias, DVL alignment, and acoustic latency.
• Debug failures from field logs and tune estimators under operational pressure.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in fusing data from underwater sensor suites for reliable state estimates in GPS-denied environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with advanced filtering algorithms (EKF, UKF, Particle Filters).
• Background in formulating continuous-time and discrete-time dynamic models for underwater vehicles.
• Thorough understanding of dead reckoning, inertial navigation, and degraded-mode localization.
• Ability to make practical engineering tradeoffs to deploy solutions within tight timelines.
• Must be based in or able to work on-site in Pittsburgh, USA
