Principal Mission Architect (EO/IR)

Location: Remote within the United States; Muon is currently registered and able to hire in AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, IA, ID, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, VT, VA. Travel to the Mountain View facility is required for in-person meetings, build, and test.

Salary: $174,000–$250,000 per year, plus incentive compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop complete EO/IR mission concepts based on customer needs.
• Perform mission-level analysis and own top-level mission budgets.
• Define requirements and design missions and payloads.
• Use software tools and code to conduct engineering trade studies and resolve system design questions.
• Evaluate spacecraft performance and constellation configurations.
• Coordinate with engineers, scientists, customers, and instrument design specialists to meet mission objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related engineering field and at least 12 years of experience working with space missions; relevant advanced degrees may count toward experience.
• Spacecraft design and space mission design experience.
• Software skills in one or more of Python, Julia, MATLAB, C, or C++.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and coordination skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements as a U.S. person, an authorized individual, or a candidate eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the required export authorization.

Nice to have

• Infrared instrument or missile warning, tracking, and defense mission experience.
• Experience supporting science teams in mission development.
• Constellation design experience.
• Spacecraft or constellation operations experience.
