TL;DR

Director, US Government Programs (Defense): Building and managing the government sales pipeline for maritime sonar and sensing systems with an accent on capture management, relationship building, and navigating complex acquisition pathways. Focus on identifying programs, shaping pre-RFP engagement, and converting operational interest into funded programs across DoD, USCG, and DHS.

Location: Remote (US), Washington DC strongly preferred. Expected travel 25–40% to DC and customer sites.

Salary: $140,000 – $190,000 per year

What you will do

  • Own the full government sales pipeline from identification through capture and closing.
  • Generate qualified opportunities by monitoring procurement sources (SAM.gov, GovWin) and engaging program offices.
  • Build strategic relationships with program managers, acquisition officers, and end-users across DoD and DHS.
  • Lead pre-RFP engagement and shape requirements to position the company's technology before solicitations.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop win strategies and represent the company at industry conferences.
  • Translate customer operational needs back to engineering and product teams.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in defense/government business development or capture management.
  • Proven track record of winning government contracts through OTAs, SBIRs, or FAR-based vehicles.
  • Must be a US person.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance is required.
  • Deep familiarity with DoD and/or DHS acquisition processes.
  • Understanding of the maritime domain (USCG, naval warfare, or port security).

Nice to have

  • Experience with maritime, undersea technology, autonomous systems, or ISR platforms.
  • Familiarity with Navy PEOs or USCG Acquisitions (CG-9).
  • Background in international defense sales (FMS) or allied nation engagement.
  • Prior military or government service.
  • Experience working at a defense startup.
