Software Engineer (L2) Segment Team (Backend)

TL;DR

Software Engineer (Backend) (CDP): Building and scaling APIs for the hirify.global Segment Customer Data Platform with an accent on high-throughput data processing and system reliability. Focus on designing robust backend systems, optimizing API performance, and leveraging AI tools for development productivity.

Location: Remote (US). Not eligible to be hired in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA

Salary: $116,960 – $171,900

What you will do

• Design and build robust, scalable backend systems and APIs across the Segment data platform.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design and product teams to balance usability, performance, and long-term architecture.
• Communicate technical decisions, articulating trade-offs and customer impact.
• Troubleshoot system reliability, debug issues, and refine operational tooling and processes.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for managed services.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience writing production-grade code in Go, Java, Python, or similar languages.
• Experience operating large-scale distributed systems on AWS.
• Hands-on experience with container orchestration frameworks like Kubernetes, EKS, or ECS.
• Experience with large-scale asynchronous processing systems.
• Proficiency in shipping services following the CI/CD development paradigm.
• Must be based in the US (excluding CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA).

Nice to have

• Experience with event streaming technologies such as Kafka or Pulsar.
• Familiarity with database technologies like PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
• Exposure to observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
• Experience working within geographically distributed teams.
