TL;DR

Platform Engineering Manager (Azure): Building and operating internal cloud platform services as a product with an accent on reducing cognitive load for delivery teams and raising engineering standards. Location: Hybrid, requiring in-office attendance at Worcester or Winchester locations twice a week

What you will do

  • Own the platform vision, roadmap, and value proposition, treating internal development teams as customers.
  • Act as a senior technical practitioner contributing to architecture, IaC, code, and incident response.
  • Build a portfolio of self-service cloud platform services, including landing zones, CI/CD enablement, and observability.
  • Manage the production operation of platform services, defining SLOs/SLAs and leading post-incident learning.
  • Establish security guardrails and compliance boundaries within Azure to balance autonomy with risk management.
  • Line manage, coach, and mentor a team of 5-6 senior engineers to foster a high-trust environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering and building IaC in Azure.
  • Experience managing a team of 5-6 senior engineers.
  • Proven track record of owning production services and reliability improvements.
  • Strong ownership mindset and a bias toward self-service over gatekeeping.
  • High emotional intelligence to build trust and psychological safety within the team.
