Privacy Specialist

Privacy Specialist (Healthcare): Assisting in ensuring compliance with HIPAA Privacy Rule and state laws while safeguarding protected health information with an accent on investigating unauthorized disclosures, risk assessments, and breach notifications. Focus on developing tracking tools, retraining teams, and maintaining privacy policies to mitigate data risks and uphold ethical data governance.

Location: Virtual (remote, open to travel up to four times annually)

Salary: 55,000–65,000 USD

What you will do

• Work with Operations and Education to retrain teams and revise workflows after HIPAA incidents.
• Train compliance staff on systems, reports, databases, and record auditing.
• Maintain Privacy & Compliance SharePoint site and oversee Code Yellow/Code Silver tracking.
• Develop tracking tools for HIPAA logs, breach releases, OCR complaints, and HITRUST.
• Follow HIPAA disclosure workflow: retrieve documents, obtain statements, assess risks, and report.
• Communicate breach notifications to Operations and clients within 10 days and ensure timely delivery.
• Assist in developing and maintaining privacy policies, apply sanctions for non-compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2 years in compliance, privacy, security, regulations, and technologies.
• Certification from AHIMA, HCCA, IAPP, or HIMSS required.
• Advanced organizational, time management, communication, and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of health information, project/change management, and healthcare regulations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; EHR experience preferred; open to travel up to 4 times/year.
