What you will do

• Own the IT function end-to-end, including systems, identity, access, and vendor relationships across the portfolio.
• Design a security posture optimized for BYOD and distributed contractor workflows.
• Rationalize the SaaS stack (Figma, Notion, Airtable, Adobe) to eliminate shadow IT and reduce costs.
• Implement baseline security frameworks (MFA, SSO, endpoint protection) aligned with NIST CSF or ISO 27001.
• Prepare the organization for SOC 2 Type II and GDPR-grade data governance to unblock enterprise deals.
• Develop comprehensive runbooks and technical documentation to ensure the function is scalable and independent.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on IT ownership in a remote-first startup or scale-up environment.
• Proven experience building or significantly restructuring an IT function from scratch.
• Deep practical experience securing a distributed, contractor-heavy workforce via BYOD.
• Strong foundation in Azure AD and Google Workspace identity and access management.
• Applied experience with NIST CSF, ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II, and working knowledge of GDPR/CCPA.
• Excellent written communication for high-quality documentation.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with POPIA (South Africa) or PIPEDA (Canada).
• Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CompTIA Security+.
• Experience handling enterprise security questionnaires and client procurement alignment.
• Prior experience managing IT for a portfolio or multi-entity organization.
