TL;DR
Field Engineer: Performs safety and non-safety certification inspections, audits of quality systems, and field evaluations in accordance with performance standards and requirements with an accent on analyzing test results, verifying compliance, and using technical judgment. Focus on interpreting UL requirements, evaluating corrective actions, and conducting inspections using specialized instruments like voltmeters and micrometers.
Must be located or willing to relocate to the Illinois Valley area, South of the Joliet areas (Bloomington, IL). Field Engineering remote with daily client visits within the area. Ability to travel locally and regionally.

What you will do
- Analyze and evaluate examination and test results against UL requirements.
- Interpret test results, verify manufacturers' equipment accuracy, and review production records.
- Review manufacturers' production, inspection, and shipping programs for compliance.
- Evaluate corrective actions for variations from requirements and facilitate options.
- Communicate with manufacturers, customers, and authorities; investigate UL Mark misuse.
- Perform inspections using instruments like micrometers, voltmeters; document results and maintain logs.
- Integrate continuous improvement into all job aspects.
Requirements
- University Degree or Equivalent Technical Certification (preferred) in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics; generally less than 1 year experience.
- General electronics background and strong mechanical/technical aptitude; ability to read schematic diagrams.
- Strong written/verbal communication, client-interfacing, computer, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work at heights and travel locally/regionally from home location in Illinois Valley area.
Nice to have
- Experience in Field Engineering, Compliance, or Quality Engineering.
- ASQ certification.
- Experience with UL Standards, 508A, Industrial Control Panels.
- Lightning Protection experience.
- Ability to cross-sell and understand client business needs.
