What you will do

• Contribute to OpenTelemetry components and related open-source projects across the ecosystem.
• Define and execute the technical strategy for OpenTelemetry adoption at hirify.global.
• Collaborate with upstream maintainers and contributors in open-source communities.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance.
• Partner with Product, Support, and GTM teams to connect customer needs with technical direction.
• Create technical documentation, blog posts, and examples to help users understand OpenTelemetry.

Requirements

• Strong experience with backend languages; Golang, Rust, or Java are strongly preferred.
• Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
• Proven ability to take ownership of ambiguous technical problems from discovery through delivery.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, or systems engineering.
• Must be based in the United States or Canada.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, optimized for remote and async environments.

Nice to have

• Existing involvement in the OpenTelemetry or Prometheus ecosystems.
• Experience maintaining or contributing to open-source projects.
• Experience setting technical direction for a project or team.
• Expertise in microservices, telemetry pipelines, and distributed tracing.
• Experience operating production services and participating in on-call rotations.
