Senior Backend Engineer

TL;DR

Senior Backend Engineer (Go/TypeScript/PHP): Develop and maintain client-agnostic back-end services powering mobile, web, and voice experiences across international markets with an accent on microservices architecture, API design, security, and scalability. Location: UK-based in Manchester, with occasional travel to London and Peterborough (1–2 times per quarter).

What you will do

• Develop and maintain back-end services using Go, TypeScript, PHP, and SQL.
• Lead small feature-driven sub-teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate with product and technology teams to align development with customer needs.
• Champion DevOps practices under a “you build it, you run it” model.
• Participate in incident management rotas and provide technical support.
• Contribute to recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
• Ensure high standards of security, performance, and resilience across systems.

Requirements

• UK-based in Manchester, with travel to London/Peterborough.
• Proven experience mentoring and leading development teams.
• Strong proficiency in Go, TypeScript, PHP, and SQL.
• Deep understanding of AWS, Cloudflare, and DevOps principles.
• Experience with microservices architecture and API design.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• High emotional intelligence and adaptability in fast-paced environments.

Nice to have

• Experience in the media or audio streaming industry.
• Familiarity with incident management and 24/7 support environments.
