What you will do

• Design and evolve the PHP-based Migrations Platform to ensure it remains reliable and scalable for increasing school volumes.
• Own platform SLAs, focusing on migration success rates, throughput, and turnaround times.
• Implement observability through logs, dashboards, and alerts to detect and resolve production issues rapidly.
• Automate repetitive tasks and data integrity checks to reduce operational toil for the Migration Operations team.
• Lead investigations of failed migrations, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventive improvements.
• Mentor fellow engineers through code reviews and pairing, sharing knowledge across the technical team.

Requirements

• Considerable software engineering experience with production systems, specifically in data migration, ETL, or data-heavy workloads.
• Strong hands-on experience with PHP at scale (Symfony framework is a strong plus).
• Proficiency with relational databases (MSSQL, MySQL, AWS Aurora), SQL, and data integrity techniques.
• Hands-on expertise with AWS and distributed cloud architectures.
• Strong scripting skills in Python or Bash for automation and data manipulation.
• Must have the right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available).

Nice to have

• Experience using agentic AI or a strong interest in increasing productivity via AI tooling.
