TL;DR

Location: Hybrid in Brighton, UK (requiring 3 days onsite each week)

What you will do

  • Design and implement game mechanics, systems, and features using Unreal Engine 5.
  • Build and iterate on gameplay systems via Blueprints, partnering with engineers for C++ handoffs.
  • Develop detailed design documentation, including GDDs, system specifications, and data sheets.
  • Prototype and validate gameplay elements directly in-engine based on internal testing and player feedback.
  • Balance game systems, progression mechanics, and economies to ensure engaging experiences.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with designers, engineers, and artists to ensure technical feasibility.

Requirements

  • Experience designing and implementing gameplay systems for AAA or high-quality independent titles.
  • Deep understanding of game design fundamentals, player psychology, and game loops.
  • Proven proficiency in Unreal Engine 5, specifically implementing mechanics via Blueprints.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to data-driven design.
  • Ability to document and present design ideas effectively across disciplines.
  • Must be based in or able to commute to Brighton, UK for 3 days per week.

Nice to have

  • Experience with multiplayer, live-service, or systemic games.
  • Background in game economy design, balance, or monetization strategies.
  • Familiarity with UE5 features such as Mass Entity, Gameplay Ability System (GAS), or PCG.
  • Experience with AI behavior, mission design, or player progression systems.
  • Prior experience in co-development environments with external studios.
