What you will do

• Design and implement query planner improvements, index selection algorithms, and storage engine optimizations.
• Profile production workloads, identify bottlenecks, and ship performance fixes with measurable impact.
• Build new database features including indexing strategies, execution engine refinements, and query optimization techniques.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to prioritize user-needed features.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions, review code, mentor engineers, and engage with the open-source community.
• Contribute to ancillary systems like cloud infrastructure and SDKs to unblock progress.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in database internals—query optimization, indexing, storage engines, or transaction processing.
• Experience shipping production database systems or meaningful time in database research.
• Fluent in Rust, comfortable with systems languages, pragmatic about tool selection.
• Strong understanding of performance tradeoffs, balancing correctness, performance, and maintainability.
• Track record of shipping reliable code people depend on.
• Comfortable with technical decisions in fast-paced environments, reading papers, and profiling systems.

Nice to have

• Direct database experience (valuable but not required—strong systems engineers excited by optimization welcome).
