Senior Manager, Field Application Support (Life Sciences)

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA; requires regular travel within the designated territory, including up to 30–50% travel to customer sites and visits of up to four or five days per week.

Annual base salary: $131,600–$205,700, with eligibility for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Manage a regional team of field application scientists, including performance reviews, training, development, mentoring, and accountability.
• Provide scientific support to account managers and new and existing customers for assigned accounts.
• Train customers on MSD assays, instrumentation, and software; troubleshoot assays and data analysis; and support customer-developed assays.
• Coordinate customer interactions between regional sales managers and applications teams and help resolve customer issues.
• Create reports and presentations from assay development visits, trainings, and evaluations; present seminars at customer sites, conferences, and internal training sessions.
• Monitor scientific literature, competitor technologies, market feedback, and product feedback, and communicate strategic information to internal teams.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Life Sciences or a related area required; a related Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least five years of experience in a field application or scientific support position, including at least three years of hands-on experience in molecular biology, clinical laboratory, discovery laboratory, or biochemistry work in a research or clinical setting.
• Experience in protein biochemistry required.
• At least five years of supervisory experience.
• Thorough understanding of the sales process for capital equipment and reagent sales in the life sciences marketplace.
• Thorough understanding of immunoassay principles, development, and applicability across research fields.
• Professional presence and strong interpersonal, written, verbal, organizational, project, priority-management, leadership, analytical, critical-thinking, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage staff performance, establish accountability and expectations, communicate complex information clearly, and work effectively with internal and external customers under pressure.
• Good understanding and competency with software and software systems, plus working knowledge of laboratory regulatory environments and GxP workspaces.
• Ability to travel and work outside normal business hours as needed; ability to communicate, use necessary equipment, move around the office, and work in laboratory environments that may involve chemicals and hazardous materials.
