Staff Scientist R&D (Molecular Biology)

Location: San Carlos, California, United States; onsite role

Salary: $157,300–$196,600 USD annually, plus potential performance bonus and long-term equity awards

What you will do

• Lead projects developing novel nucleic acid-based diagnostic tests, including planning, feasibility testing, protocol development, and optimization.
• Drive research projects to completion according to timelines and deliverables.
• Work cross-functionally with bioinformatics, development, product, and project management teams.
• Mentor, direct, and assist junior scientific staff while promoting rigorous scientific practices.
• Write experimental reports, summaries, and protocols; communicate progress to stakeholders, departmental meetings, and senior leadership.
• Support strategy, risk management, documentation, and process improvement.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in molecular biology or a closely related field.
• At least 8 years of industry experience, or 2+ years of post-doctoral research and 6+ years of industry experience.
• Extensive experience designing, executing, and analyzing next-generation sequencing and molecular biology experiments, including problem solving.
• Track record of scientific innovation and accomplishment, including development of novel nucleic acid and multiomic techniques and tests.
• Demonstrated ability to think creatively and independently in experimental design and analysis.
• Experience leading complex research projects to completion.
• Excellent communication, organizational, record-keeping, planning, time management, and analytical skills.

Nice to have

• Cancer research experience.
• Experience with epigenetic or methylation analysis, target capture or enrichment, whole-genome sequencing, or proteomics.
• Cell-free DNA experience.
• Experience with automation.
• Experience managing and providing basic leadership to research associates and junior scientists.
• Skill in writing clear plans, reports, and standard operating procedures.
