Focus on applying DFM/DFS principles, tolerance management, hands-on prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and ensuring regulatory compliance in a collaborative environment.
Hybrid remote – 60/40 (Rochester, NY / Remote). Domestic and international travel to supplier and customer sites may be required (1-2 weeks annually).
Compensation: $90,000 - $120,000 per year
Company
Worldwide provider of medical imaging systems and solutions; x-ray imaging systems for non-destructive testing.
What you will do
- Lead design and delivery of mechanical subsystems for complex radiography systems across multiple projects.
- Own end-to-end subsystem development including requirements, CAD layouts, drawings, material selection, and manufacturing release.
- Provide technical leadership for internal and supplier designs, resolving issues on performance, manufacturability, cost, and compliance.
- Apply DFM/DFS principles with tolerance analysis, assembly sequencing, and trade-offs.
- Perform hands-on prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and develop test fixtures.
- Support manufacturing, service, field activities, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years experience, including design lead on 3+ projects.
- Experience designing mechanical systems: enclosures, frames, structural components, thermal management, electromechanical packaging.
- End-to-end ownership of subsystems: CAD, geometry, materials, drawings, finishes, manufacturing release.
- Common processes: sheet metal, machining, castings, injection molding, thermoforming, composites.
- ASME Y14.5 GD&T (2009+), tolerance stack-up, supplier reviews.
- Hands-on prototyping, root cause analysis; 3D CAD (learn Siemens NX); domestic/international travel.
Nice to have
- Electromechanical mechanisms: drive systems, lead screws, linear slides, cams, bearings.
- IP development, testable requirements, IMU/LiDAR, 3D printing, ANSYS FEA.
- Medical safety standards (IEC 60601), radiography/fluoroscopy knowledge, calibration tooling, exact constraint design.
