HPC Engineer

TL;DR

HPC Engineer: Assist users with executing and troubleshooting computational workloads on secure HPC clusters with an accent on scheduler job scripts, performance optimization, and distributed computing support. Focus on developing scripts for Slurm/PBS, resolving MPI/GPU job failures, and promoting best practices for cluster resource utilization.

Location: Onsite in Charlottesville, VA. Active TS/SCI clearance required. U.S. citizens only.

What you will do

• Provide user support for HPC workloads in classified and unclassified environments, including job submission and troubleshooting.
• Assist with scheduler scripts for Slurm or PBS, resource allocation for CPU/GPU/distributed jobs.
• Troubleshoot failing or slow jobs, including MPI, GPU, and large-scale parallel applications.
• Guide users on compiling/executing scientific applications and HPC best practices.
• Monitor workloads, develop automation scripts in Bash/Python, and maintain documentation.
• Coordinate with infrastructure teams and provide onsite support.

Requirements

• BS in Engineering, CS, or STEM (experience may substitute); Active TS/SCI clearance; Ability to obtain DoD 8140 IAT Level II.
• 5+ years Linux experience (RHEL preferred), command line, scripting, multi-user troubleshooting.
• Experience with Bash/Python scripting, job schedulers (Slurm/PBS/Torque), distributed computing.
• Supporting users in technical/engineering environments; Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Copilot or equivalent AI solution.

Nice to have

• HPC cluster user/admin experience.
• Parallel frameworks (MPI, OpenMP, CUDA).
• Scientific/engineering apps, performance tools, compiling C/C++/Fortran/Python.
• Classified environments, GPU workloads.
