TL;DR

Associate Director, UN Advocacy (Humanitarian): Developing and implementing advocacy strategies to advance IRC's views and client interests within UN Secretariat agencies and the Security Council with an accent on policy tracking, high-level diplomatic engagement, and aid reform. Focus on influencing international responses to crises, providing thought leadership on innovative aid solutions, and managing strategic relationships with UN member states.

Location: Hybrid (New York, NY). Minimum 3 days per week required in office

Salary: $105,000 - $115,000

What you will do

  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies to influence the UN Security Council and Secretariat agencies.
  • Track UNSC developments and conduct targeted outreach to member state missions.
  • Represent IRC at high-level UN meetings, including the annual UN General Assembly.
  • Provide UN-specific analysis to develop impactful and achievable policy priorities.
  • Act as a spokesperson for IRC in meetings with UN Special Envoys, Rapporteurs, and the Secretary-General's office.
  • Collaborate with global teams in New York, Geneva, London, Brussels, and field offices.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Public Policy, Law, or International Relations.
  • 6-8 years of experience in advocacy roles with a proven record of managing high-level relationships.
  • Must be based in or authorized to work in the USA (New York HQ).
  • Deep knowledge of humanitarian programming in conflict-driven settings and International Humanitarian Law.
  • Extensive knowledge of UN processes including UNSC deliberations and IASC.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to synthesize complex data into policy narratives.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience working within the United Nations or a UN Mission.
  • Experience with peer organizations performing UN-facing advocacy.
  • Specific knowledge of humanitarian organization operations.
