TL;DR

Failure Analysis Intern (Power Electronics): Assist FA engineers in performing failure analysis on customer RMA returns and internal engineering requests with an accent on electrical fault isolation and defect characterization at IC and power supply levels. Focus on inspecting and documenting failures, supporting electrical debugging, analyzing test data, and performing physical analysis using microscopy and imaging tools.

Location: California (work location for this role)

Salary: $32–$34 hourly (California)

What you will do

  • Assist in failure analysis of customer RMA returns and internal requests.
  • Perform hands-on electrical fault isolation, defect characterization at IC and power supply levels.
  • Inspect and document incoming RMAs, support debugging with impedance measurements, ATE tests, curve tracing.
  • Analyze test data and conduct physical analysis like optical microscopy, CSAM/SEM imaging with senior engineers.
  • Collect data, document findings, contribute to technical reports.

Requirements

  • 3rd year Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Power Electronics Engineering
  • Fundamental knowledge of analog and digital circuits.
  • Basic understanding of semiconductor device physics and IC fabrication.
  • Exposure to lab tools: curve tracer, oscilloscopes, source meters, DMM.
  • Basic technical report writing skills.

Nice to have

  • Academic projects using Cadence/Synopsys, MATLAB, SPICE for design and simulation.
  • Hands-on experience in device/PCB characterization.
  • Familiarity with IC/PCB schematics and layouts.
  • Understanding of analog, mixed-signal, or power ICs.
  • Exposure to failure analysis tools: optical microscopes, XRAY, SEM.
