Location: Based in Vancouver office with office-centric hybrid schedule (standard in-office Mon, Tue, Thu; WFH Wed; Fri depends on work and teams).

Salary: $176,000–$200,000 base.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services using Scala and gRPC in modern microservices architecture for global growth.
• Own features end-to-end: from problem definition, design, implementation, launch, to iteration.
• Lead large cross-team initiatives from ambiguous problems to execution, driving key architectural decisions for revenue-critical systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Finance, and partner engineering teams on high-impact monetization solutions.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance, focusing on cell-based distributed architectures.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical culture through design and code reviews.

Requirements

• Must be based in Vancouver for hybrid office schedule.
• Strong experience building and scaling backend or full-stack systems, ideally distributed systems or complex data models.
• Proven ability to take full ownership of technical problems and drive resolution across the stack.
• Excellent collaboration skills to influence engineering and non-engineering partners.
• Curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance productivity and decision-making.
• Experience with (or strong interest in) billing, payments, financial systems, and cloud infrastructure like Kubernetes; thrive evolving cell-based, sharded, or multi-tenant systems.
