TL;DR
AI Platform Architect (AI and Distributed Systems): Shaping the architecture of Grab's SuperApp ecosystem across AI-assisted engineering, reliability, search, monetisation, transactions, and commerce with an accent on cross-organisation platformisation and AI-native foundations. Focus on embedding LLM agents safely into engineering workflows, converging ranking and recall systems, institutionalising chaos engineering, and launching scalable 0→1 business platforms.
Location: Beijing, China; onsite role.

operates a large-scale SuperApp across transport, food, commerce, advertising, merchant platforms, financial services, and enterprise services in Southeast Asia.
What you will do
- Shape the technical trajectory of a 300+ engineer organisation across merchant platforms, search and personalisation, ads and monetisation, transaction systems, and enterprise capabilities.
- Architect AI-assisted development workflows, agentic operational automation, AI-powered reliability guardrails, and safe test-backed automation systems.
- Raise reliability standards through prevention, chaos engineering, stronger detection, and improved recovery mechanisms.
- Break down platform silos by unifying ranking, user understanding, data infrastructure, and shared capabilities across search, ads, promotions, and transactions.
- Design scalable 0-to-1 foundations and execution models for e-commerce, AI agents, conversational transactions, and gamified engagement experiences.
- Influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-organisation architectural change as a high-leverage individual contributor reporting to the Head of BECO.
Requirements
- Staff+, Principal, or equivalent experience designing large-scale systems.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and AI/ML system realities.
- Experience driving architectural change across organisations.
- Experience building or evolving platforms used by millions.
- Background touching reliability, search, machine learning, or transaction-heavy systems.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders, operate effectively amid ambiguity, and shape engineering culture.
