Senior Staff Optical Engineer

Expected base pay: $134,390–$201,300 per year, plus eligibility for bonus and equity plans.

What you will do

• Perform end-to-end system simulations for high-speed optical interconnects, including SerDes, electrical and optical channels, packages, and optical transceivers.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance system-level simulation environments.
• Conduct laboratory measurements and correlate results with simulations for system validation, optimization, and performance evaluation.
• Analyze and resolve signal integrity issues such as crosstalk, attenuation, reflections, and discontinuities.
• Perform engineering validation tests and design validation tests.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 5–10 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and/or PhD with 3–5 years of experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in design validation and modeling for fiber-optical communication systems.
• Strong knowledge of optical communication components, including optical DSP, coherent DSP, high-speed modulators, receivers, transimpedance amplifiers, and RF amplifiers.
• Strong understanding of optical communication impairments and compensation, signal integrity, amplifiers, tunable filters, RF/microwave engineering, and photonics fundamentals.
• Strong programming proficiency in Python and experience with Keysight ADS, including IBIS-AMI, or MATLAB for system or channel simulation.
• Hands-on experience with optical and electrical test equipment, including optical spectrum analyzers, digital communication analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, wavelength and power meters; familiarity with PAM4 SerDes, VNA, and TDR.
