Staff Mechanical Design Engineer

TL;DR

Staff Mechanical Design Engineer (Hardware): Architect and design complex electromechanical systems including plastic, metal, and soft goods components integrated with novel sensors and actuators with an accent on high-volume manufacturing and integration with electronics. Focus on driving designs across the full development lifecycle from concept through prototyping, testing, and production ramp in Asia, performing thermal, fluid, and structural analysis.

Location: Based out of San Francisco office 5 days/week (onsite). Willingness to travel to China as needed.

Salary: $160K – $240K base + equity

What you will do

• Architect and design complex electromechanical systems integrated with sensors and actuators.
• Drive product development from brainstorming and CAD to prototyping, testing, and production ramp in Asia.
• Collaborate with industrial design, marketing, product, electrical, software, reliability, and manufacturing teams to shape products.
• Solve cross-functional problems and perform analysis including thermal, fluid, and structural to meet product goals.

Requirements

• 8+ years consumer product design experience with injection molding, sheet metal forming, sensor/electronics integration.
• Track record shipping high-volume products with manufacturing support in Asia and travel to China.
• Highly proficient with 3D modeling tools (Solidworks, NX, Creo).
• Experience with DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, GD&T, root cause analysis, DOEs.
• BSME or equivalent (MS preferred).
