Product Validation Engineer - GM Energy (Automotive)

TL;DR

Product Validation Engineer (GM Energy): Lead validation and verification activities for next-generation energy hardware systems including bi-directional EVSE, inverters, energy hubs, V2H/V2G solutions with an accent on safety, reliability, durability, regulatory compliance. Focus on defining validation strategies, managing supplier progress, reviewing test reports, and driving root cause analysis for issues.

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan – report to office at least 3 times a week. No immigration sponsorship (H1-B, OPT, etc.). Must legally operate a motor vehicle. Travel <25%.

What you will do

• Translate customer requirements, regulations, and use cases into validation criteria and methodologies.
• Define and communicate validation requirements for new products and changes to suppliers.
• Develop and maintain ADVP&R, track supplier progress, review test reports and certifications.
• Ensure alignment with standards, identify risks, support launch readiness and quality reviews.
• Drive root cause analysis for validation/field issues, track defects, verify fixes.
• Support prototype builds, continuous improvement, and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years in product validation or test engineering.
• Strong root cause problem-solving, supplier collaboration, hardware validation knowledge.
• Ability to review technical data, certifications; familiarity with DVP&R, DFMEA, standards (UL, CSA, IEC).
• Strong organization, tracking, communication skills.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years in product validation/test engineering.
• Experience with EVSE, inverters, energy storage, residential energy systems.
