Credit Officer - CRE & Housing - SME: Produce high-quality credit analysis, ongoing portfolio monitoring, and stakeholder engagement for real estate and housing clients up to £25m with an accent on sanction discretion, collaboration with front-line business, and balancing risk and reward. Focus on proactively monitoring portfolio performance, contributing to policy reviews, and improving team processes.

Location: Hybrid in Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh or Leeds (at least 2 days per week or 40% of time in office)

Salary: £67,023 - £74,470

What you will do

  • Exercise sanction discretion or provide recommendations to senior sanctioners.
  • Collaborate with originators, relationship managers, and product partners to shape credit proposals.
  • Support safe business growth while balancing risk and reward.
  • Proactively monitor portfolio performance and communicate emerging risks.
  • Contribute to policy, sector, and ad-hoc reviews with constructive challenge.
  • Respond to queries from senior leaders and regulators on credit risk.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ways of working.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in RE&H sector with solid credit background and exposure to £10–25m+ deals
  • High attention to detail and strong numeracy skills for fast-paced environment
  • Confident communicator able to influence and build trusted relationships
  • Comfortable challenging status quo and bringing improvements
  • Confident decision-making with clear rationale in complex situations
