Senior Ground Software Engineer (Rust/TypeScript)

TL;DR

Senior Ground Software Engineer (Rust/TypeScript): Design and implement software for building, testing, and operating satellites and customer payloads with an accent on mission operations, ground segment, and constellation management. Focus on developing scalable event-driven architectures, reliable APIs, and automation for on-orbit spacecraft operations.

Location: In-person presence required at headquarters in Torrance, CA (Los Angeles area). Must be a U.S. Person per ITAR export control regulations.

Salary: $150,000 - $200,000 + equity

What you will do

• Design and implement software for vehicle build, test, and operations.
• Collaborate with Mission Operators and Engineers to scope solutions for technical and business problems.
• Facilitate design reviews, architecture discussions, and code reviews.
• Work across Rust backend and TypeScript/Vue frontend to support milestones.
• Support internal/external customers on-call for ground tests and on-orbit operations.
• Mentor engineers to build team culture and practices.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, or protected individual) per ITAR.
• Bachelor's in CS, computer/electrical engineering, math, STEM, or 3+ years software engineering experience.
• 5+ years building software solutions professionally.
• Experience with Rust or statically-typed backend language (Go, C++, Java, C#, TypeScript).
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend (Vue, React, Svelte).
• Version control, CI, build, deployment, monitoring.

Nice to have

• Experience on space missions or satellite ground segment.
• HTTP/gRPC APIs, SQL (PostgreSQL), event-driven architectures.
• Reliable scalable systems, Docker/Kubernetes, WebSockets/SSE.
• Cybersecurity practices (SOC2, FedRAMP), networking protocols, data streaming (NATS, Pulsar).
