Principal Engineer — Payroll Engine & Data Systems (Fintech)

TL;DR

Principal Engineer (Fintech): Building and optimizing an integrated global payroll calculation engine and data ecosystem with an accent on bitemporal modeling and complex multi-jurisdictional payroll math. Focus on designing DAG-based resolvers, architecting robust ETL pipelines for HRIS integrations, and ensuring 100% accuracy in financial payment file generation.

Location: Must be based in London (preferred), Madrid, or Malaga (4 days/week in-office)

What you will do

• Design a DAG-based resolver and bitemporal logic to handle complex, multi-jurisdictional payroll calculations.
• Architect data ingestion pipelines to transform unstructured HRIS data into a deterministic PayrollRuleSchema.
• Build API-first connectors and event-driven systems using the Outbox pattern for global HR/Fintech synchronization.
• Own the generation of ISO 20022 payment files, localized tax filings, and General Ledger (GL) reports.
• Implement a bitemporal data strategy to enable historical "As-Of" reporting across the data lake.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in Python (for the engine) and Node.js/TypeScript (for integration layers).
• Mastery of PostgreSQL, including bitemporality and window functions.
• Proven experience with ETL/ELT patterns and ensuring Exactly-Once processing in financial systems.
• Domain experience at tech-first global payroll or payments companies (e.g., Deel, Rippling, Papaya Global).
• Location: Must be based in London, Madrid, or Malaga with a requirement to be in-office 4 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with dbt for analytics.
• Familiarity with NetworkX and Pydantic.
• Experience with AI-driven development tools like Claude Code.
