Senior Firmware Engineer (ESP32)

TL;DR

Senior Firmware Engineer (ESP32/Matter): Developing production-grade firmware for Matter-enabled devices using ESP-IDF with an accent on end-to-end ownership from board bring-up to certification. What you will do

• Own the full device firmware lifecycle from schematic review and board bring-up to production.
• Implement Matter protocol on ESP32-series silicon using ESP-Matter SDK or Connectedhomeip.
• Develop and manage OTA frameworks, partition tables, and FreeRTOS task management.
• Perform hardware debugging and validation using JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, and protocol sniffers.
• Resolve real-world interoperability issues across major ecosystems including Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa.
• Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to deliver production-ready devices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional embedded/firmware engineering experience in C/C++.
• Deep expertise with ESP-IDF, including CMake/Kconfig build systems and low-level driver integration (I2C, SPI, UART, ADC, GPIO).
• Demonstrable experience implementing Matter on ESP32-series silicon.
• Hands-on experience with Wi-Fi or Thread (802.15.4) transports.
• Must reside in the continental US.
• Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Contributions to open-source Matter or ESP-IDF repositories.
• Experience taking a Matter device through CSA certification.
• Knowledge of adjacent protocols such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, or BLE Mesh.
• Experience in consultancy or product development firms shipping multiple product lines.
• Ability to set up CI/CD for firmware builds and automated test harnesses.
