Head of Program Management (Defense)

Location: Chandler, Arizona, United States. The position requires adherence to U.S. Government export control regulations and U.S. citizenship or other U.S. Person status, unless the required authorizations can be secured.

Salary: $178,400–$331,200 per year, plus bonus and equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end execution of sustaining programs from contract award through delivery across cost, schedule, quality, and customer commitments.
• Translate contract requirements into executable program plans, schedules, and delivery frameworks.
• Lead, develop, and raise the performance of approximately 14 program managers across multiple sites.
• Assess and strengthen the existing PMO framework to improve scalability, consistency, and execution discipline.
• Coordinate engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, and finance in a matrixed environment.
• Introduce performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting to improve visibility into program health, risks, and outcomes.

Requirements

• Significant experience in defense or government contracting, including contract execution and customer expectations.
• Experience leading program management or PMO functions and directly managing teams.
• Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
• Experience building organizational capability through talent development, processes, systems, and training.
• Technical credibility in engineering, manufacturing, quality, or similarly complex environments.
• Experience with program controls such as EVM, IMS, or comparable frameworks in defense or highly regulated environments.

Nice to have

• Experience in a prime or sub-prime defense organization.
• Experience improving or scaling execution in a growing or evolving environment with measurable impact.
