Software Engineering Lead (Agentic AI)

Location: Somerville, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid work environment with 3+ days per week in the office

Salary: $160,000–$220,000 per year

What you will do

• Own the technical architecture and delivery of a new agent-native app-building product.
• Hire, mentor, and grow a team of 3–5 engineers.
• Establish standards for testing, observability, and AI-driven development.
• Partner with Infrastructure and Engineering teams to evolve APIs and runtime capabilities for agents.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, Infrastructure, customers, and Customer Success on shared outcomes.
• Build an AI-first development culture while improving engineering velocity and quality.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building and scaling large SaaS products and complex distributed systems.
• 3+ years of people management experience, with hands-on technical leadership and software architecture experience.
• Experience building and scaling production AI systems, including agent orchestration, context management, retrieval pipelines, vector stores, tool invocation, and MCPs.
• Experience designing evaluations for agentic systems, including success criteria, task suites, and reliability measurement across multi-step tool use.
• Expertise with React, Node, MongoDB, and Postgres, plus multi-cloud and multi-tenant deployments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
