Principal or Staff Electrical Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: El Segundo, California, United States. Must work 100% onsite at the El Segundo headquarters; extended hours and weekends may be required.

Annual salary: $200,500–$314,475, plus equity.

hirify.global is an El Segundo-based startup developing portable, mass-produced nuclear microreactors, including the 1-megawatt Kaleidos reactor for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases.

What you will do

• Define and lead the electrical architecture for Kaleidos, including power distribution, analog front ends, digital control interfaces, and mixed-signal systems.
• Design and own multilayer PCBs for reactor control and instrumentation, covering schematic capture, component selection, precision and high-speed layout, signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
• Design low-noise analog front ends and integrate ADC/DAC components with digital subsystems, sensor interfaces, data acquisition paths, and communication buses.
• Bring up, debug, validate, and qualify hardware through board-level testing, laboratory instrumentation, root-cause analysis, and environmental-margin evaluation.
• Work with firmware, FPGA, DSP, and responsible engineers at the hardware-software boundary.
• Set design standards, lead reviews, mentor the electrical team, shape the hardware roadmap, and identify and mitigate hardware risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience designing custom PCBs, including multilayer and mixed-signal boards.
• Experience shipping self-designed hardware from requirements through layout, bring-up, qualification, production, or field deployment.
• Experience setting electrical architecture direction and driving decisions across complex, multidisciplinary programs.
• Strong experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium, Cadence, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, grounding strategies, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
• Analog and mixed-signal design experience, including sensor interfaces, ADC/DAC integration, and low-noise practices.
• Familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, and their layout constraints.
• Hands-on experience with board bring-up, debugging, and oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and VNAs.
• Experience designing for high-reliability or harsh environments, including nuclear, aerospace, defense, or industrial applications.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Familiarity with radiation effects and radiation-tolerant electronics design.
• Experience with power electronics or power distribution design.
• Exposure to FPGA or embedded systems supporting hardware-software co-design.
• Familiarity with nuclear instrumentation or detector interface electronics.
• Experience with DFM, DFT, and production bring-up.
