TL;DR
AWS Database Architect (AWS): Designing, implementing, and optimizing cloud-based database solutions for the Department of Veterans Affairs with an accent on scalability, security, and high-performing applications. Focus on leading migrations from legacy systems to AWS and implementing automated provisioning via Infrastructure-as-Code.
Location: Remote (Must be able to obtain a VA Position of Public Trust)
Salary: $90,000 - $115,000 a year

What you will do
- Design and implement relational (SQL Server) and non-relational (DynamoDB, Cosmos DB, MongoDB) cloud-native database solutions on AWS.
- Lead migration initiatives from on-premises or legacy databases to AWS using DMS, SCT, or custom pipelines.
- Develop database strategies ensuring scalability, fault tolerance, data integrity, and high availability.
- Implement disaster recovery, backup strategies, and security controls involving IAM, KMS, and encryption.
- Create Infrastructure-as-Code templates using CloudFormation, Terraform, or CDK for consistent provisioning.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to database administrators and engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in database design and administration within AWS, specifically with RDS and related services.
- AWS certification such as Database Specialty or Solutions Architect.
- Proficiency in SQL, NoSQL paradigms, and scripting languages like Python.
- Experience with CI/CD tools, specifically Jenkins, and monitoring tools like CloudWatch or Datadog.
- Ability to obtain a VA Position of Public Trust.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with .NET or Java application development.
- Experience working with Jira as a data source, including API and data structure knowledge.
- Experience in enterprise, government, or regulated environments (FedRAMP, HIPAA, SOC2).
