What you will do

• Implement new ML methods and baseline models (45% time), including post-training for LLMs on clinical data, self-supervised pre-training, retrieval/attribution for generative models.
• Develop novel methods for explaining diagnostic classifications, data-centric AI, graph-based algorithms for low-label diseases/procedures, and multimodal data fusion.
• Own end-to-end model development: from research to production deployment and monitoring using MLOps.
• Work cross-functionally on MLOps/MLE (20%) and data science tasks like dataset curation and experimental design (20%).
• Conduct academics and outreach: scientific reading/writing, publishing, conference presentations (15%).
• Become domain expert in clinical data and healthcare ecosystem; collaborate on research agenda and shared infrastructure.

Requirements

• Deep understanding of neural network architectures (SwiGLU vs sigmoid, GRUs vs transformers vs SSMs, etc.) and distributed training.
• Extensive experience developing/training state-of-the-art deep learning models on multiple GPUs/nodes using PyTorch, JAX, etc.
• Ability to assess/create high-quality ML research, demonstrated by publications at top venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.).
• Desire to deploy research into production; strong communication on scientific concepts and debugging.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States (US work authorization).

Nice to have

• MLSys skills (tensor/pipeline/data parallelism, gloo/mpi/nccl, CUDA/ROCm, Triton).
• Familiarity with inference optimizations (vLLM, SGLang, continuous batching, KV caching, speculative decoding).
