Edge Networking Engineer (Cloudflare)

Location: Remote; compensation is benchmarked against the San Francisco Bay Area and benefits are specified for US- and UK-based employees.

Salary: $190,000–$250,000 annual base salary, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own edge networking configuration across routing, WAF policies, rate limiting, certificate management, and Cloudflare infrastructure.
• Evolve the ingress layer, including controllers, lifecycle management, policies, and the Ingress API.
• Manage DNS across internal Kubernetes clusters and external zones.
• Build network-layer observability for latency, error rates, and routing failures.
• Extend networking into new regions while keeping designs scalable and operable.
• Define engineering practices and technical standards covering AI tooling, static analysis, chaos engineering, simulation, and pre-release testing.

Requirements

• Experience diagnosing production issues at the network layer through proxies and load balancers.
• Hands-on infrastructure-as-code experience with a focus on safe, governed changes.
• Networking experience in several areas including DNS, WAF, service mesh, Kubernetes ingress controllers, and network policies.
• Ability to use AI to solve complex engineering problems, including rapid prototyping and agent-based feedback loops.
• Ability to design, ship, and operate reliable traffic infrastructure across the full request path.

Nice to have

• Experience with Cloudflare Workers, WAF, Access, or Tunnel.
• Istio or another service mesh in a multicluster environment.
• GKE or another managed Kubernetes platform at scale.
• Ruby or Rails integration experience.
• Interest in prototyping new engineering ideas and ways of working.
