Senior Data Engineer (Databricks)

Senior Data Engineer (Databricks): Lead the initial phase of data platform transformation by evaluating current Databricks environment and defining target lakehouse architecture with an accent on scalable, governed data solutions. Focus on documenting medallion architecture, data flows, modeling standards, governance via Unity Catalog, and providing technical guidance to delivery teams.

What you will do

• Assess existing Databricks environment, analyze components, and document recommendations for reuse, refactoring, or redesign.
• Define and maintain architecture documentation including medallion layers (Bronze, Silver, Gold), data flows, modeling standards, naming conventions, and runbooks.
• Support source system analysis, logical data modeling for Silver/Gold layers, and SQL/PySpark prototyping to validate patterns.
• Establish governance and security standards using Unity Catalog, documenting data ownership, access, metadata, and lineage.
• Act as liaison between Architecture, Data Engineering, Analytics, and Platform teams to clarify standards and gather feedback.

Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal English for clear communication
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
• 5+ years experience in data platform analysis, documentation, and architectural support
• Strong knowledge of Databricks, lakehouse architectures, advanced SQL, Python/PySpark
• Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines in cloud (Azure preferred), medallion architecture, data governance (Unity Catalog)
• Proven ability to produce clear technical documentation

Nice to have

• Experience with Delta Lake, Delta Live Tables, Auto Loader
• Familiarity with data quality frameworks, healthcare/regulated domains
• Basic understanding of CI/CD, data privacy/compliance (HIPAA)
