Project Functional Safety Manager

Project Functional Safety Manager (Automotive): Ensuring ISO 26262 compliance across automotive programs throughout the product lifecycle with an accent on safety planning, concept development, analyses, and governance. Location: Garching - Bavaria, Germany or Böblingen, Germany. Willingness to work at a hirify.global or customer site if required and travel up to 20% globally.

What you will do

• Own Functional Safety governance at project level, ensuring ISO 26262 compliance across the product lifecycle.
• Define, maintain, and execute the Functional Safety plan aligned with project timelines and customer expectations.
• Coordinate work products from Functional Safety engineers, ensuring completeness and timely delivery.
• Act as primary point of contact for customers, stakeholders, and assessors on safety status and decisions.
• Track deliverables, monitor risks and dependencies, and escalate issues proactively.
• Plan and facilitate reviews, confirmations, assessments, and manage deviations and open points.
• Provide transparent reporting on status, maturity, risks, and KPIs to management.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Program Management, or related field.
• 10+ years in Automotive product development, 5+ years in Functional Safety roles.
• Proven expertise in ISO 26262 (including ASPICE), safety management, planning, and governance.
• Experience with ASIL projects in ADAS, Intelligent Cockpit, or complex E/E architectures.
• Strong interface skills with OEM customers, leadership, suppliers, and assessors.
• Ability to plan reviews, audits, identify risks, and align engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Prior experience as Functional Safety Engineer.
• Understanding of system, hardware, software safety mechanisms.
• Direct OEM customer experience and RFQ knowledge.
• TÜV or equivalent Functional Safety certification.
• Familiarity with SOTIF (ISO 21448) and Cybersecurity (ISO 21434).
• Experience with Functional Safety tools; AI tools knowledge.
