Principal Software Engineer (Embedded Automotive)

TL;DR

Principal Software Engineer (Embedded Automotive): Creating from scratch the Connectivity software for a high-end embedded automotive Telematics system with an accent on system and component architecture, design documentation, and implementation. Focus on analyzing customer requirements, managing development teams, ensuring compliance with automotive standards, and resolving technical issues for real-time performance and reliability.

Location: Bucharest, Romania (Hybrid). Be willing to travel up to 10%.

What you will do

• Design and document system/component architecture (HDD/DDD), analyze customer requirements, and map to software architecture.
• Evaluate and present software architecture to management, sales, and customers; manage implementation with local/remote teams.
• Resolve technical inconsistencies, ensure compliance with hirify.global processes, Automotive SPICE, and functional safety.
• Provide impact analysis, estimates, planning, staffing, and escalation for projects.
• Write, test (white-box), fix bugs, analyze malfunctions, and monitor development status via reviews.
• Mentor engineers, define non-functional requirements, and act as expert/consultant on best practices.

Requirements

• Perfect English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, IT, Computer Science) or equivalent.
• 6–10+ years in C++ software development, strong Linux knowledge, embedded/real-time experience.
• Proven experience as software developer/system engineer/analyst; UML, Design Patterns, inter-process communication, multithreading, networking.
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to present to technical/non-technical audiences, train/coach engineers.
• Ability to anticipate issues, provide feedback, and align work with priorities.

Nice to have

• Experience in automotive/Telematics systems.
• Basic project management, agile methods (SCRUM, SAFe).
• Knowledge of Linux power management, logging (DLT), protocols (SPI, I2C, UART).
• Excellent task/time management, attention to detail, flexibility under pressure.
