Test Technician

TL;DR

Test Technician (Sensing Systems): Support the build, test, and deployment of sonar and sensing buoy systems with an accent on prototype assembly, electrical integration, and field operations. Focus on establishing processes from scratch, troubleshooting hardware issues, and coordinating on-water deployments.

Location: On-site in Torrance, CA with up to 25% travel for field deployments. Must be U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible under ITAR (no sponsorship).

$40–$55/hour

Building sonar and sensing systems to explore the ocean, with alumni from SpaceX, Anduril, ABL, and Qualia, focused on maritime autonomy and defense.

What you will do

• Build, troubleshoot, and deploy buoy systems independently from prototype assembly to field operations.
• Organize and manage test area, tool inventory, equipment storage, and workspace standards.
• Coordinate test outings, on-water deployments, and field operations.
• Follow engineering procedures and create standard operating procedures for routine testing.
• Perform mechanical and electrical assembly, soldering, hands-on troubleshooting, and checkout tests.
• Support expanded testing with up to 25% travel to test sites.

Requirements

• U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or ITAR-eligible (no sponsorship).
• Ownership: notice issues and take action without direction.
• Comfort with autonomy in small team building processes.
• Hands-on electrical assembly: soldering, wiring, connectors, delicate components.
• Curiosity across domains: assembly, integration, testing, boat deployments.
• Documentation mindset for repeatable processes.
• Solid troubleshooting and time management skills.

Nice to have

• Marine or boating experience.
• Hardware startup or prototyping environment experience.
• Background in manufacturing, test engineering, or field operations for electromechanical systems.
