TL;DR

Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform (Autonomous Vehicles): Design & develop next generation distributed ML data platform (Ingestion, Processing, Serving) using GCP and open-source frameworks with an accent on evolving petabyte-scale Data Lakes into Lakehouses. Focus on building self-serve capabilities, optimizing services for cost efficiency, performance & reliability, and owning e2e technical projects with major technical decisions.

Location: Hybrid - report to offices in Austin, TX; Bellevue, WA (Greater Seattle Area); or Mountain View, CA three times per week minimum. May be eligible for relocation benefits.

Salary: $125,000 - $234,100 base + bonus potential.

What you will do

• Design & develop distributed ML data platform using GCP and open-source frameworks for ingestion, processing, and serving.
• Collaborate with ML & Data Engineers to translate needs into requirements and build self-serve capabilities.
• Own end-to-end technical projects, make major decisions, and contribute to strategic roadmap.
• Champion engineering excellence by improving systems, processes, code reviews, and design discussions.
• Conduct technical interviews, onboard new hires, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years building petabyte-scale distributed data platforms, evolving Data Lakes into Lakehouses on cloud providers.
• Expert proficiency in Java, C++, or Python for designing/implementing robust distributed systems.
• Expertise in Data Processing Frameworks (Beam, Spark) and serving layers for high-throughput, low-latency.
• Experience optimizing services for cost, performance, reliability; microservices architecture and full operational lifecycle.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with full ML model lifecycle (feature engineering, training, validation, deployment, monitoring).
• Experience with (100+) petabyte-scale architectures and SQL engines/queries.
• Passion for self-driving technology.
