Scientific Editor (Trends Open and Physical Science Portfolio): Commission and publish high-quality reviews and commentary across physical, chemical, Earth, applied, and engineering sciences with an accent on materials research, application-driven chemistry, and machine learning applications to physical science. Focus on evaluating field-shaping research manuscripts, managing peer review processes, editing for scientific clarity, and executing AI- and data-driven innovations.

Location: Preference given to candidates located near US, Amsterdam or London offices

What you will do

• Identify key authors and research topics where reviews will benefit the community.
• Evaluate manuscripts against journal requirements for critical field-shaping research.
• Manage pipeline of review and research articles, including peer review and editorial processes.
• Edit manuscripts to enhance scientific messaging and clarity.
• Collaborate with Editor-in-Chief and Cell Press team to grow Trends Open visibility.
• Represent the journal at conferences and engage with the scientific community.

Requirements

• PhD with focus on materials research (solar, battery, condensed matter), application-driven chemistry (materials chemistry, synthesis, heterogeneous catalysis), or machine learning applications to physical science.
• Prior editorial experience highly recommended.
• Strong passion for science and scientific communication.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, time management, and organization.
• Ability to work in teams and independently with impartiality and proactivity.
• Strategic mindset and solution-oriented approach.
