PhD Research Intern, Object Detection and Tracking (AI)

TL;DR

PhD Research Intern (AI/Computer Vision): Developing state-of-the-art agent policies and object detection/tracking models for autonomous vehicles with an accent on research publication and production integration. Focus on tackling high-impact open research problems within the simulation stack to validate autonomous driving software.

Location: Hybrid; Must be able to relocate to the Bay Area, California or Boston, Massachusetts for the duration of the internship

Salary: $9,500 per month

What you will do

• Develop state-of-the-art agent policies at the forefront of autonomy research.
• Tackle high-impact, open research problems directly relevant to the company roadmap.
• Contribute to research with strong potential for publication in top-tier AI conferences.
• Transition novel research ideas into production systems within the simulation stack.
• Collaborate with experienced researchers to validate autonomous driving software.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in CV, NLP, or ML.
• Strong Python programming and data engineering skills.
• Proficiency in PyTorch or other deep learning frameworks.
• Experience in detection, tracking, or prediction models and working with complex codebases.
• Able to commit to a 12-week internship during Summer 2026 cohorts (May-September).
• Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, CA or Boston, MA.

Nice to have

• Publication records in top-tier AI conferences (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, etc).
• Experience with large-scale datasets for ML training.
