TL;DR
NYSA Education Intern (Unpaid): Supporting preparation and facilitation of the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy, a six-week in-person program for newly arrived immigrant youth ages 5-21 with an accent on academic, arts, physical education, and social-emotional learning. Focus on administrative tasks, classroom assistance, ESOL instruction, or monitoring and evaluation to ensure program success and student school readiness.
Location: New York, NY (Hybrid before NYSA start June 1β30, 2025; in-person during NYSA July 1βAugust 15, 2025; must be available full days in Manhattan for training June 29βJuly 2, 2026 and program days)

What you will do
- Support Youth Education Supervisor with administrative tasks: ensuring lesson plans submission, reviewing plans, classroom observations, team communication.
- Assist teachers in classrooms as needed, including stepping in for instruction.
- For Youth ESOL Intern: Create class materials, provide feedback, assist in-person instruction, lead activities, offer one-on-one support and translation.
- For Monitoring and Evaluation Intern: Design assessments/surveys, collect/analyze data, create reports/visualizations, track program indicators.
- Complete trainings, support program rollout/wrap-up, supervise student meals/arrival/dismissal.
- Model positive behavior and participate in meetings.
Requirements
- Recent/current undergraduate or graduate student in Education or related field
- Experience in education/teaching preferred; knowledge of classroom procedures, health/safety a plus
- Experience working with children/peers desired
- Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds
- Fluency in written/spoken English required; must be available for all training and full program duration (no exceptions)
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills, team player, flexible, self-directed

- Second language proficiency (Arabic, Dari, Farsi, French, Fulani, Haitian Creole, Mandarin, Mandingo, Pashto, Russian, Spanish, Tigrinya, Ukrainian, Wolof)
