London, England. Hybrid policy: in the office at least three days per week.

What you will do

  • Own 1-2 strategically significant work streams end-to-end, accountable for business outcomes and impact.
  • Lead from the front: write code, analyze, collaborate cross-functionally, and unblock teams as needed.
  • Form dynamic teams for emerging priorities, set expectations, build momentum, and drive execution under aggressive timelines.
  • Develop senior engineers into leaders with direct, actionable feedback to grow leadership capacity.
  • Partner with Engineering Director on pillar strategy: recommend investments, cuts, and priorities based on ground insights.
  • Champion AI-first engineering culture using tools like Claude Code and MCP servers.

Requirements

  • Exceptional people leader AND personally action-oriented: build high-performing teams while driving outcomes hands-on.
  • Product-minded with strong opinions on what to build and why; challenge directions and prioritize impactfully.
  • Experience operating at scale with startup energy: large distributed systems, reliable shipping, urgency.
  • AI fluency: experimenting with AI-assisted development and pushing team adoption.
  • Technically credible: review architectures, spot issues, earn engineer respect.
  • Strong communication, extreme autonomy, and critical business thinking.

Nice to have

  • Experience in customer service AI or high-scale AI systems.
